South Carolina Farmers Markets:
Support Locally Grown, Sustainable Produce
Center for Carolina Living

Center for Carolina LivingCenter for Carolina Living
resh produce, mere steps from the vine. Colorful displays. Tantalizing flavors. Homemade wares. Healthy options at every turn. And lots of happy shoppers AND growers.

It’s just a typical visit to your local farmers market, where passionate and caring farmers mingle with shoppers with a palate for healthy and sustainably harvested food. Across North Carolina, there are numerous markets to sample and frequent, from small roadside stands to large scale productions on fairgrounds, and you can find one near you any time of the year (yes, even in the winter months).

And while obtaining the freshest of food and supporting local businesses are two obvious and prominent benefits, it’s important to remember that shopping locally grown food is another significant component of living a greener lifestyle. Produce both grown and purchased locally eliminates the need for extensive shipment via planes, trains and automobiles.

So grab your grocery list, a basket or reusable shopping bag, and enjoy a romp around your local market. Grocery shopping has never been more fun!
