As a juried weaver and polymer clay artist, Carrol Kay draws on a lifetime of fiber arts experience to create her handwoven and knitted wearable art and accessories.
She began learning the many facets of sewing and handwork from her grandmothers as a young girl, and continued her fiber arts study and growth through workshops, classes and seminars throughout her early adult years in South Florida.
Having created typical handwoven home accessory items in the 1980s, after relocating to Beaufort, South Carolina and operating a B&B with her husband for twelve years, Carrol began to create wearable art from her handwoven material.
Since retiring from Innkeeping in 2002, Carrol has been fulfilling her passion for fibers, and the suppleness and drape that selected yarns can produce in garments. To complement her garments, she interlaces handweaving, knitting, beading and embellishment techniques.
Carrol has been weaving for over thirty-five years, and her Knot By Chance wearable art has been a staple of the South Carolina Artisans Center since 1995. Her work is also available from a number of galleries and gift shops in South Carolina and Georgia.
