Church Built In 1753

Believed to be one of the first temple churches built in the United States, this is hallowed ground.  First constructed in 1753 and destroyed more than once, it’s been left in this state since 1865.  You can wander around the property and find persons of note buried in the small cemetery.

Old Sheldon historic church site in northern Beaufort County has seen its share of marriages, funerals and plenty of high drama. Easily accessible by car, plan to stop and wander around the ruins.  You’ll be awed by the experience.
